IANA SOPHIA FINE ARTS
"Iana Sophia's art pulsates between the seen and envisioned, the figurative and abstract. Inspired by a mystical sensitivity and an appreciation of nature, these paintings draw the viewer into a place of contemplation, where the secrets of the work begin to unfold." (D.Sirois)
Iana Sophia is a Boston based painter, working mostly in oil and watercolor. Of Czech origin, she has been creating and showing her work in small, independent local venues in and around the Boston Metro area and recently she began to show her work in Europe again. Iana has lived and worked in Prague, Vienna, Salzburg, Zurich and Paris; she received her masters degree from the Universitaet Wien. Iana has attended numerous art workshops, most recently at the MFA Boston School of Art.
Iana Sophia specializes in oils, but also experiments with other media, such as oil based mono-prints, as well as digital post-production of original oil work.
The work shown on the web page is taken from the cycles "Ethereal Landscapes", "Atmospheres" "Sehnsucht" and "Villages" created between 2002 and 2010
The morst recent work cycle, titled "Swamps and Moors" was created in 2009/10. A source of inspiration for these paintings was the pristine beauty of the coastal area, the "Plum Island", a nature reseve, located about 50 miles north of Boston.
